Great Start of May for Our Players, Friends and Academy Members

At the beginning of May, our academy players excelled in ITF and junior tournaments in Europe and the United States with great victories and progress.

The beginning of May brought another busy and successful week for our players, friends and academy members, who competed at ITF and junior tournaments across Europe and the United States. From strong wins and main draw qualifications to deep tournament runs, our players showed great effort, fighting spirit and valuable progress on different surfaces and levels.

Julia Adams had an excellent week at the W35 Nottingham tournament, held from 4 May to 10 May 2026 on hard court. She reached the semi-final after three impressive wins. In the 1st round, she defeated Solymar Colling 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-2, then beat Sabine Rutlauka 7-6(2), 6-4 in the 2nd round. In the quarter-final, Adams continued her strong run with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Amelia Rajecki, before losing in the semi-final to Emily Appleton 2-6, 2-6.

Lauryn John-Baptiste competed at the W35 Nottingham tournament, held from 27 April to 3 May 2026. She successfully came through the qualifying draw, defeating Chloe Cleaver 6-4, 6-1 in the 1st round and Lois Newberry 6-3, 7-5 in the 2nd round. In the main draw, she faced Emily Appleton and was defeated 2-6, 2-6.

Lia Karatancheva played two W100 events in Florida on clay. At the W100 Indian Harbour Beach, FL tournament, held from 4 May to 10 May 2026, she faced Argentina’s Julia Riera in the 1st round and was narrowly defeated in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 3-6. She also competed at the W100 Bonita Springs, FL tournament, held from 27 April to 3 May 2026, where she played Ecuador’s Mell Elizabeth Reasco Gonzalez in the 1st round and lost 4-6, 2-6.

Evita Ramirez competed at the W15 Reichstett tournament, held from 4 May to 10 May 2026 on clay. She opened her qualifying campaign with a solid 7-5, 7-5 win over France’s Elisa Rohrbach. In the 2nd round, she played a close match against Belgium’s Kaat Coppez, but was defeated 6-3, 6-7(2), 1-10.

Mia Horvit had a good doubles performance at the W15 Beograd tournament, held from 4 May to 10 May 2026 on clay. Playing with Melinda Biro, she defeated Karyna Fiadosik and Ana Cristiana Mocanu 6-1, 6-1 in the 1st round. In the quarter-final, Horvit and Biro faced Italy’s Chiara Fornasieri and Gaia Mais, losing a tight match 2-6, 6-0, 3-10.

In junior competition, Ziya Ayberk Aydin competed at the J30 Izmir tournament, held from 11 May to 17 May 2026 on clay. After receiving a bye in the 1st round of qualifying, he defeated Bartu Arslan 6-2, 6-3 in the 2nd round and then beat Can Ozturk 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 in the quarter-final, successfully qualifying for the main draw. In the main draw, he received a bye in the 1st round and advanced to the 2nd round.

Matilda Cabrera Burns played at the J30 Girona tournament, held from 28 April to 2 May 2026 on clay. She started with an excellent three-set win over Canada’s Catherine Racu, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. In the 2nd round, she faced Spain’s Yaiza Borderia and retired with the score recorded as 1-0 RET.

Andreea Kurta competed at the J60 Tarragona tournament, held from 5 May to 10 May 2026 on clay. In the 1st round, she faced Spain’s Melany Esteban Gonzalez and was defeated 6-7(5), 1-6.

Gwendolyn Fedel played at the strong J500 Offenbach tournament, held from 4 May to 10 May 2026 on clay. In the 1st round, she faced Czech player Katerina Zajickova and was defeated 5-7, 5-7 in a very competitive match.

Cezar Stefan Simion competed at the J60 Ulcinj tournament, held from 11 May to 17 May 2026 on clay. He received a bye in the 1st round of qualifying, then defeated North Macedonia’s Matej Popov 6-3, 7-6(9) in the 2nd round. In the quarter-final, he faced Serbia’s Nikola Micic and lost 2-6, 1-6.

Overall, it was a very active and positive start to May, with strong performances, important wins and valuable international experience for our players and academy friends. Congratulations to everyone on their effort, commitment and fighting spirit.
