Barcelona Sports Academy in the Pearl River Delta
Barcelona Sports Academy and Galix Sports successfully completed an international tennis camp in Guangzhou, China.
Guangzhou, China | May 1–5
Barcelona Sports Academy successfully completed an international tennis camp in Guangzhou, China, organized in collaboration with Galix Sports, bringing the methodology, energy, and professional standards of Barcelona tennis directly to young players in Asia.
From May 1st to May 5th, around 20 talented participants took part in an intensive training program designed to improve their technical, tactical, physical, and mental performance on court. The camp was led by the Barcelona Sports Academy team: Director Jordi, Coach Agustin, and Fitness Trainer Joan.
A Complete Tennis Experience Inspired by Barcelona
During the five-day camp, players experienced a structured training program based on the same principles used in high-performance tennis academies in Spain. The focus was not only on improving individual strokes, but also on helping players understand the game better, move more efficiently, compete with confidence, and develop professional training habits.
The players worked on key technical areas such as:
Forehand and backhand consistency, with special attention to preparation, balance, contact point, and recovery after each shot.
Serve development, including rhythm, coordination, ball toss, leg drive, and tactical placement.
Return of serve, focusing on reaction time, compact swings, early preparation, and aggressive first-shot decisions.
Net play and transition game, helping players move forward with confidence, improve volleys, and finish points more effectively.
Footwork and court positioning, one of the main pillars of the Barcelona training methodology.
Tactical Training and Match Situations
A major part of the camp was dedicated to tactical understanding. Players were placed in realistic match situations where they learned how to construct points, recognize patterns, and make better decisions under pressure.
Training sessions included exercises for:
- Point construction from the baseline.
- Changing direction safely and effectively.
- Using height, depth, and spin to control rallies.
- Opening the court with angles.
- Defending under pressure and turning defense into attack.
- Recognizing when to attack and when to reset the point.
Coach Agustin guided players through competitive drills and live-ball exercises, helping them understand how to apply technical improvements in real match conditions.
Physical Preparation with a Tennis-Specific Focus
Fitness Trainer Joan led dedicated physical preparation sessions designed specifically for tennis players. These sessions focused on speed, coordination, agility, balance, reaction, and injury prevention.
Participants worked on movement patterns used in tennis, including explosive first steps, lateral movement, recovery steps, acceleration, deceleration, and dynamic stability. The goal was to help players move more efficiently, react faster, and maintain a higher level of performance throughout long rallies and matches.
The fitness component was an important part of the camp, showing players that modern tennis requires much more than good technique. It requires a complete athlete.
Learning the Professional Mindset
Beyond technique and fitness, the Barcelona Sports Academy team also emphasized discipline, attitude, focus, and daily training habits. Director Jordi shared the academy’s philosophy with the players, highlighting the importance of consistency, effort, respect, and long-term development.
The camp created an environment where players were challenged, motivated, and encouraged to step outside their comfort zone. Every session was designed to help them grow not only as tennis players, but also as young athletes.
A Successful Collaboration with Galix Sports
This camp was made possible through the collaboration with Galix Sports, whose organization and local support helped create a professional and inspiring training experience in Guangzhou.
Barcelona Sports Academy is proud to have partnered with Galix Sports for this international project and to have had the opportunity to share its tennis methodology with passionate young players in China.
Certificates and Closing Ceremony
At the end of the camp, all participants received official certificates recognizing their participation in the Barcelona Sports Academy Tennis Camp in Guangzhou.
The closing ceremony was a special moment for players, coaches, families, and organizers. It celebrated five days of hard work, learning, improvement, and international sports connection.
Barcelona Sports Academy Goes Global
